EMC compliance is now a requirement in virtually all parts of the
developed world. Lack of a Declaration of Compliance means that
your product is officially barred from almost all major markets.
Even if you avoid the enforcement regime, how long before your competitors
use compliance as a marketing tool? |
 |
EMC compliance generally means checking that your product does not
cause interference and ensuring that it has adequate immunity against
incoming interference. In the USA the FCC standards apply, elsewhere
European standards are commonly used. Both sets of standards are
similar and use the same test equipment. |
 |
Your compliance strategy could be to use test labs to check your
product, or do the testing yourself, or to use a combination of
the two. The optimum route depends on the volume of product and
number of different products to be tested. Generally, if more than
five tests per annum will be required, self testing offers clear
advantages in convenience, cost and timescale. |
 |
There are clear benefits in testing a product throughout the development
cycle. Costly redesigns and the associated delays are avoided. The
advantages of having your own test system become paramount if this
strategy is adopted. |
 |
Many standard test techniques require specialised test sites and/or
test chambers. Laplace have researched and developed unique
techniques which enable you to test your product in your own
environment with confidence. This means that you can test on your
own site, in the office, factory or laboratory, without travelling
to test labs or specialised sites. |
