Functional Description

High-performance Platform

The SCS-800 is a high-performance signal conditioning system for PC-based data acquisition. An SCS-800 system consists of a battery or AC operable chassis and up to 8 multi-channel modules.

The SCS-800 takes advantage of the increasing capabilities of notebook and desktop PCs by leveraging off the PC's strengths. It provides a high-performance, flexible solution whether used as a conditioning front-end for desktop systems in the factory or as a mobile solution for portable systems in the field.

Compact

The SCS-800 chassis has the same footprint as a typical notebook PC. The SCS-800 modules share this small form factor. With modules that filter and amplify up to 8 channels, the SCS-800 delivers compact signal conditioning for larger systems.

Modular Architecture

The design philosophy of the SCS-800 was to create a self-contained system with a modular architecture that breaks new ground in flexibility. Such a modular construction allows for configuration of a variety of modules that will form the basis of the system and match specific application needs.

Expandable

Expanding the system's capacity simply involves plugging additional modules into the chassis as test requirements change.

Easy Configuration and Setup

Available for Windows 95/NT/3.1 and popular third-party software, SystemView is easy-to-use application software for graphically configuring key parameters within minutes. A controller card stores programmed commands in nonvolatile memory, allowing for system power up to the last selected configuration.

Modules

The SCS-800 product family currently provides quality anti-aliasing filters that conform to the 3U Eurocard form factor. (Refer to the separate module data sheets for more information.) All input and output connections are made from the front of the unit, easing maintenance and eliminating the need to struggle with complex field wiring to service or modify the SCS-800 system.

Dimensions: 6.98" D x 0.78" H x 5.06" W (177.5mm x 19.92mm x 128.5mm) Power requirements: 5.0V @ 330mA max(per module) 15.0V @ 150mA max

Power

The SCS-800 can be powered from a variety of sources to accommodate various applications. For stationary or desktop applications, the SCS-800 comes standard with a reliable, low-noise AC power supply that supplies regulated DC power to all boards at positive and negative voltages.

For portable applications, an optional rechargeable battery provides up to 16 hours of operation with 8 installed channels. The battery eliminates ground loops and power supply noise. A companion dual-stage battery charger charges a completely exhausted battery in 8 to 11 hours while the system is operating.

The SCS-800 also can be powered directly from a standard 12V car battery. An optional cable permits the system to be plugged directly into an automobile cigarette lighter.

Chassis

The SCS-800 chassis houses the modules in an impact and corrosion resistant case. It features a carrying handle, front plexiglass cover, tilt feet, and a front-panel LED that indicates power on/off status. A built-in RS232 serial interface provides a convenient, direct connection to the standard serial port on a host PC for remote control.
